Inauguration Ceremony of Gerhard Gross Memorial Results and Gallery

This past summer, skiing lost an integral member of our family. As the former managing editor of this publication, Gerhard Gross helped shape the voice of TransWorld SNOWboarding, and in his role as content director of the subsequent Dew Tour, he played a key role in making the event what it is today. In his honor, the Dew Tour team jointly organized a memorial slalom race to raise money for Gerhard’s wife Kris and son, Gerhard IV, both in attendance as the sun shone on the participants.

Taking place on a course built for adaptive skiers and snowboarders, the race passes a series of berths and rollers, and having such an event at the Dew Tour is something Gerhard is passionate about. Its inherent totality appropriately embodies the person Gerhard used to be, and the emphasis on using the right edges is a reminder of his competence as a fundamentally solid skier. Gerhard rips apart and will surely spend a low amount of time on this course.

As riders of all genres celebrate Gerhard’s life and his contributions to snowboarding, the close friendship around the field is kind of a reminder of why we ski and how lucky we are to be part of this family. While it may be safe to say that no one racing has a prize, there is a great reward for the fastest times of the day. The winner is awarded by the board from Korua Shapes, customized by Scott Seiver of dew tour. As a savvy driver interested in the intricacies of skis, the brand’s unique approach to board design and their emphasis on plank structures in relation to the art of turning is something Gerhard particularly loves.

Congratulations to Evan Strong and Christina Taylor for lowering the fastest time. Thank you for all that has come out to make the first race one of the memorable ones, and Chris Ortiz, Adam Cozens, and the entire Dew Tour team have made this race a reality. We look forward to seeing you there again next season with our table being a little cleaner and our corners a little sharper.
